Hi, I’m Rachel and I’m a qualified nutritionist and health writer. I’m also a scientist who specialises in biochemistry, nutritional medicine, and clinical practice.
I could never decide whether I wanted to study law or medicine but thinking I was squeamish, I chose law. My interest in health never left me and in 2007 I gained my first nutrition qualification, as well as becoming a fitness instructor and yoga teacher. More recently I gained a Master’s level qualification in biochemistry, nutrition and lifestyle medicine, and clinical practice. At first glance law and medicine appear completely unrelated until you realise, they are both entirely evidence-based subjects.
I have a particular interest in mid-life health conditions for men and women (you may be shocked to know that 35+ is considered mid-life in medicine) and my experience of working with people has proven again and again that symptoms and outcomes respond significantly to nutrition and lifestyle interventions. The combination of nutrition, lifestyle and medicine is extremely powerful and can be the difference between living well or not.

In his/her 50’s struggling with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heartburn, joint pain and type 2 diabetes – an all too typical list of issues. So, how would he/she fare at a typical conventional GP’s surgery versus a functional-medicine doctor’s office?
Here are some key differences.
